Chuck's Big Bone

At Colorado Canine Orthopedics, the Doctors specialize in bones. Fixing bones, doing x-rays on bones and moving bones around. I am also a bone specialist. I like small bones, big bones, chewy ones and crunchy ones. (You know the biscuits that are shaped like bones). I managed to steal a big bone that belonged to one of the big dogs and it was super tasty! I don’t have anything to do with fixing bones, just eating them. Those Doctors might have gone to school for years and years to learn about bones. They even had to take special tests to show how much they know about bones. I am proud to say that for me no schooling was required. I was born with my skill and have never even had to study.

Push my Button!

When I visit my friends, they all notice that I have these little swirly things on my fur right by my ears. They are in fact, my yawn buttons. When you rub them, I yawn. It is pretty funny. The other time I yawn is when I am about to bite someone and my Mom senses this as though she were a dog psychic, so I pretend to yawn instead of biting. Pretty clever don’t you think?  Of course I wouldn’t ever really bite someone unless they touch my feet or try to cut my nails or when I get a little over-anxious about a treat that I am trying to get. If you are a surgeon or need your fingers for any reason, best not to give me a treat. Just set it on the ground and I will find it.

Welcome to Chuck's Walk in Closet

Chuck, MVP

Hey, did you know that Monday, January 14th is National Dress Up Your Dog Day? I am pretty sure that I started this being the trendsetter and snappy dresser that I am. It wasn’t always easy to choose outfits as my Mom and Dad would have dramatic discussions about my attire. My Dad said that I was only allowed to wear sports hoodies featuring only the teams that he likes. My Mom said that I should be more versatile. I really don’t care as I look really good in all of my outfits. My friend Cayenne does not embrace dressing up as I do. She just sits there waiting for someone to come remove the annoying piece of fabric off her body and then she runs around like a crazy dog once she is naked. I think all dogs should dress up and accentuate their personalities. A Great Dane could wear a giant football jersey or like my Lab friend Sabre who wore a Home Depot t-shirt. Not as cool as me, but an effort in fashion should always be appreciated.

Baby Chuck.... yes, he was an innocent puppy once

As told by Chuck’s Mom:

I have always had big dogs and I once joked with my husband about getting a little dog that I could put clothes on and carry around in a bag. I was kidding, but apparently my husband didn’t know this. A few months later, a co-worker asked my husband if he wanted one of their Chihuahua puppies. He said, “My wife would love one.” As it turned out, the mom of the puppies sadly died a few days after having the puppies, so they were brought in to my husband’s work so they could be fed and cared for. I had heard nothing about this until my husband came home with a picture of him and baby “Chuck” whom he named himself. Within a few weeks, Chuck was coming home with us. I had only seen him once and he was the size of a small rodent. By the time we got him home, he wasn’t much bigger and I was terrified about having such a small dog amidst all of the big ones. I tried to introduce everyone slowly. The big dogs were wary and Chuck was just thrilled to have friends. After a year or so, it was apparent with Chuck’s tendency to have accidents etc. that he needed a playmate his own size. I’m sure Chuck will explain more in his blogs, but we adopted Cayenne from a rescue in New Mexico and they are a perfect match for each other. She is sweet and well behaved and Chuck is not. She eats daintily and Chuck does not.  My husband summed it up once when he was watching them play and he said, “ I never thought I would love the Chihuahuas so much!” Surprise to the big dog lovers, we have become little dog lovers as well.
