Chuck’s Top 10

A few blogs ago, I told you about my friend Pirate who got lost. Well, I have been pondering that issue since I wrote about it and I have decided that I need a list.

Chuck’s top 10 reasons for not wanting to get lost:

1.     I don’t like coyotes, but I bet they would like me.
2.     The weather would be an issue. (I can’t even pee outside if it is    too cold)
3.     The snacks would be way too organic even for me.
4.     No bed in the dryer before I turn in for the night.
5.     No sniffing my big dog friends.
6.     No snuggling with my Mom and Dad.
7.     No one to yell at me when I am doing something bad.
8.     No access to write my blog.
9.     No photo ops with treats
10. No servants to bring me food and scoop my poop.

As you can see, I have some very good reasons to stay safe in my home and avoid the outside world unless I am travelling in my carrier. There is too much scary stuff out there and I have a feeling that I might be a tiny bit spoiled so I am not interested in roughing it. Some dogs might long for that one escape to see what is out there, but I need my routine. I am sort of like a Prince who has never ventured out of the castle. I am good with this.

Camp Chihuahua

Some of you may know that there was a horrible fire in our city and it came uncomfortably close to our house. We have a whole farm of animals at our house and my Mom was a little stressed about knowing if she could get us all to safety if the fire moved any closer. I appreciate this about my Mom knowing how much she loves us. With the potential evacuation of our home, my Mom decided to send the horses to see my Aunt Ixchel and have us little dogs evacuate early too. She sent us to Aunt Chris’s house with our little suitcases packed for an unknown amount of time. As you know, I love going to Aunt Chris’s house as there is tons of ME time. Cayenne, Dutchess and I made our selves at home right away as we took out all of the toys and fought over them. The food was great and the accommodations were the best. I got to play for hours and hours while watching updates on the news to make sure the rest of my family was safe. There were a lot of stories about animal rescues and a wonderful story about a fireman saving a little Bambi. I like those stories. I know I am pretty funny and all, but on my serious side, I want to thank all of the animal people for helping to save my furry friends. We are completely dependent on you for our well-being and it is a good feeling to know that so many of you are looking out for us. This week wasn’t just about ME after all. Maybe next week.

Popularity Contest in the ICU…….

A few blogs ago, I told you about my cat friend Lucas. He was recently in the ICU with bladder stones. So I was wondering if he ate some rocks like I did, or if these are some special stones that only cats can eat. They must have been really valuable stones since the super surgeon, Dr. Riecks had to go in and take them out. The only reason anyone wanted the rock that I ate was because I couldn’t poop and my belly hurt. Lucas also spent time with my good friend Dr. Hines who took care of him throughout his ordeal. Dr. Miles and Dr. McReynolds also helped out with his care. So let’s compare notes here: I had two Doctors when I was in the ICU, Lucas had three. I do think I should count Dr. Riecks too, since he and Lucas spent some quality time together while he was doing surgery. I spent a total of six days (not all at one time) and Lucas spent four days in a row. I had many visitors, as did Lucas. I tried to bite the nurses when they took me out and Lucas purred so loud the whole time that they couldn’t check his heart rate. In my defense, I am unable to purr so that is not a fair comparison, though the biting thing probably lessened my popularity. I like Lucas and all; I just don’t like him moving in on my fans and caregivers. I am in no hurry to return to the ICU, but if I do, I would like to know that I am the most special patient and all four of the Internal Medicine Doctors should be catering to my needs and maybe two surgeons. I think that would even out the contest, don’t you?

Diggin' Life

I am a digger. I am not sure where I got this particular trait, but it is in my little tiny Chihuahua blood. I know it doesn’t always make sense to anyone else. My Dad thinks that I am trying to dig my way back to Mexico. He is pretty funny. The truth is that I don’t even know why I do it. I dig carpet, dog beds, dirt, rocks (we know where those end up) and even blankets. When I dig, I feel incredibly productive, like I am doing something worthwhile and with purpose. If I came across a big huge bone while I am digging, it would feel really worthwhile. I have noticed that people dig as well. In the winter, I see my parents digging in the snow. When our electricity went out last summer, my Dad was digging a lot! He was using a big metal thing and I was thinking that they probably have those in my size. He was also using words that I usually hear when I have done something REALLY BAD! I was pretty sure it wasn’t me that time, but I’m sure it will be me next time. Maybe I dig for trouble? Who knows, but if you are a digger too, don’t be ashamed. It is a compulsion and unless you want to attend therapy to rid yourself of it, you might as well embrace it as I have. Who knows, I hear there is lots of sun in Mexico!
