As told by Chuck’s Mom:
I have always had big dogs and I once joked with
my husband about getting a little dog that I could put clothes on and carry
around in a bag. I was kidding, but apparently my husband didn’t know this. A
few months later, a co-worker asked my husband if he wanted one of their
Chihuahua puppies. He said, “My wife would love one.” As it turned out, the mom
of the puppies sadly died a few days after having the puppies, so they were
brought in to my husband’s work so they could be fed and cared for. I had heard
nothing about this until my husband came home with a picture of him and baby
“Chuck” whom he named himself. Within a few weeks, Chuck was coming home with
us. I had only seen him once and he was the size of a small rodent. By the time
we got him home, he wasn’t much bigger and I was terrified about having such a
small dog amidst all of the big ones. I tried to introduce everyone slowly. The
big dogs were wary and Chuck was just thrilled to have friends. After a year or
so, it was apparent with Chuck’s tendency to have accidents etc. that he needed
a playmate his own size. I’m sure Chuck will explain more in his blogs, but we
adopted Cayenne from a rescue in New Mexico and they are a perfect match for
each other. She is sweet and well behaved and Chuck is not. She eats daintily
and Chuck does not. My husband summed it up once when he was watching
them play and he said, “ I never thought I would love the Chihuahuas so much!”
Surprise to the big dog lovers, we have become little dog lovers as well.
